In November 1982, the Corinthians team wore shirts encouraging people to vote in the first Brazilian multiparty election since the 1964 military coup. Led by the influential midfielder Sócrates, the gesture was part of the so-called “Democracia Corinthiana” movement, which challenged the traditional approach to running a football club.
